Junior middleweight prospect Demetrius Andrade remained undefeated with an uneventful but dominant unanimous decision in the 10-round main event of the season finale of ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights from Hammond, Ind., on Friday.
Andrade (14-0, 9 knockouts), a 2008 U.S. Olympian from Providence, R.I., kept his pre-fight promise to “jab, jab, jab, jab, jab” his way to victory, thoroughly outclassing Brewer to lopsided scores of 99-91, 99-91 and 98-92 by using the basic punch and lateral movement.

Robert Guerrero suffered a left shoulder injury in sparring, forcing him to withdraw from a much-anticipated HBO main event against junior welterweight slugger Marcos Maidana on Aug. 27, Golden Boy promoter Richard Schaefer announced Thursday.
Schaefer said the entire “Boxing After Dark” card at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., near Guerrero’s hometown of Gilroy, Calif., has been called off.

Ultimately, it was not about the money for Glen Johnson. It was about the opportunity, which is why Johnson said he has accepted a deal to challenge super middleweight titlist Lucian Bute.
Johnson, nicknamed “The Road Warrior” for regularly going to his opponent’s turf throughout his career, will do it again when he meets Bute on Nov. 5 on Showtime. The fight will likely take place at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, though the Bell Centre in Montreal is also a possibility, InterBox’s Jean Bedard, Bute’s promoter, told ESPN.com on Wednesday. Bute, who lives in Montreal, is a major star in Quebec.

Three days after Abner Mares claimed a bantamweight title with a hard-fought but highly controversial majority decision win against Joseph Agbeko, the IBF on Tuesday ordered an immediate rematch.
The result was controversial because of the universally criticized performance of referee Russell Mora, who allowed Mares to repeatedly land low blows throughout the fight without taking away any points. He warned Mares several times but never took a point.

The last names are world famous to boxing fans: Chavez and Hearns. Hall of Famer and former three-division champion Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is revered as perhaps the greatest Mexican fighter in history. Thomas Hearns, who won world titles in five divisions and was involved in some of the most exciting fights in history, will be eligible for the Hall of Fame next year.
While they never fought in the same division, their sons do — and they will meet Sept. 17 when Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., in his hometown of Culiacan, Mexico, defends his middleweight belt for the first time against Ronald Hearns, Zanfer Promotions’ Fernando Beltran announced.

Super middleweight titlist Robert Stieglitz of Germany will travel to former three-time titleholder Mikkel Kessler’s hometown of Copenhagen, Denmark, to defend his 168-pound belt on Nov. 5, their promoters announced Tuesday.
The fighters and their handlers will hold a pair of news conferences Wednesday to make the formal announcement, a morning one in Berlin followed by an afternoon gathering at the host site, the 50,000-plus seat PARKEN Stadium in Copenhagen.

Abner Mares won the IBF bantamweight championship Saturday night, beating Joseph Agbeko by a controversial majority decision.
Mares appeared to land a number of illegal low blows, but referee Russell Mora never deducted a point in the Showtime bantamweight tournament final. In the 11th round, Agbeko was sent to the canvas on an apparent low blow that Mora immediately ruled a knockdown.
Two judges scored the bout 115-111 for Mares, while the other had it even at 113.

Australian junior welterweight Michael Katsidis stopped Michael Lozada of Mexico at 2 minutes, 18 seconds of the third round on Saturday before a partisan crowd at Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland.
Katsidis (28-4, 23 knockouts) was coming off consecutive title-bout losses to Juan Manuel Marquez and Robert Guerrero, respectively.
Losada (38-9-1, 30 KOs) lost for the third time in his past five fights, failing to rise from a savage body attack and being counted out by referee Adrian Cairns.

Kermit Cintron did what he had to do against Antwone Smith on the Friday Night Fights card in St. Charles, Mo. More or less.
Cintron, coming off a listless decision loss to Carlos Molina last month, won a unanimous decision – 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94 – in a 10-round junior middleweight fight to retain his status as a title contender and marketable fighter.
And he did it in a way that contrasted sharply with his fight against Molina – he let his hands go, throwing a healthy 1,143 punches, according to CompuBox.

Scott LeDoux, a former WBC heavyweight title contender, has died aged 62 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The American lost to Larry Holmes on a technical knockout in July 1980 when challenging for the WBC belt.
